Can I make natural baby shampoo?
Hi,

I hope you parents have read the recent media attention to possible carcinogens tested in baby toiletries (links to sources below).

Granted these are trace amounts so small that they aren’t listed on the ingredients label. But does anyone know what the cumulative effects are over time?

While the right thing to do is to petition industry and the politicians to make changes, it’s going to take a long time to do.

We could buy natural baby-safe shampoos, like those from California Baby (www.californiababy.com), but they are EXPENSIVE.

So my question: does anyone know how to make homemade, natural baby-safe toiletries? Shampoo, lotion, soap, etc.

Even if you don’t know how to make it, please share your opinions on natural baby-safe store-bought toiletries.

Thanks,
Roland (father to 5-month old Kenzie)

I make my own castile soap, it is extremely mild and natural. I use it in everything from household cleaning, shampoo, baby wipe solution, I’ve even brushed my teeth with it! It takes only 3 ingredients: water, lye, and olive oil. It takes me 20 minutes to make it and another 2-3 weeks for the soap to “cure”. Google soapmaking, saponification, lye calculator, castile soap, etc… Handmade castile soap is very expensive in shops, even Dr Bonner’s is $15 for 16 ounces. I make my own for about .50 cents.

Big Pharmacy is now the major industry in USA? What does this say about us (U.S.)?
If you watch TV or listen to radio, you may have noticed that a large proportion of the ads are for drugs.
I understand this is a natural reaction to the baby boomers entering retirement age, but let’s review the past trends in advertising.

I remember in the 60s it was soap. “Ring around the collar”.
Brought to you by the same chemical companies which brought Agent Orange to Viet Nam.

In the 70s it was fashion. Synthetic fabrics like doubleknit pants. Made from oil of course…

In the 80s it was cars. “What’s good for General Motors is good for America”.

In the 90s it was the tech boom; Moor’s Law that processor speed doubles every 18 months.

In the 21st Century it’s drugs.

Is this why American productivity continually increases but we are all getting poorer? Why innovation seams to have ceased but viagra commercials are omnipresent? Is an ageing population going to kill America?

And what can we do about it?

Many commercials for drugs are also for contraceptives and autoimmune disease as well as the Purple pill. They wouldn’t even say what that was for. Those would be for younger and middle aged people. Drugs are twice as costly in the US than anywhere else in the world. Boomers were the reason the US surged to great heights until now. Our own needs created a great economy based on consumerism but consumerism is being done away with in case you haven’t noticed. Choices are just too confusing according to the left. Also they don’t trust us to make good choices so they are taking away our choices and giving us what they believe is best. Aren’t they special.

Add to those drug commercials the ads put up by attorneys for lawsuits brought about by people who have experienced the side effects and birth defects caused by the new drugs. Billions are paid out each year to parents of children who became autistic due to the required vaccinations for children. This is a well kept secret but the vaccinations remain required.

Our government has turned on us. Its obvious to anyone who looks. I guess we are all supposed to put our 401k’s in pharmaceuticals.

If you could write for your soap, what storylines would you have?
For me: Katherine would run a charity and find a nice old man with whom she can fall in love.
Jill would bring Chancellor Industries into the storyline. It would take Jabot’s place. I would bring in a few fresh faces (both sexes) of varying ages.
I would fire Amber & give Daniel a real job. ( They’re getting too old to place the kids)
Bring back the old Colleen who finds herself pregnant with Prof. A..hole’s baby. That would be a storyline.
Adam should get together with Mackenzie (yes bring back a new good one.) Chancellor & NE together? Whew.
Michael & Lauren should have another baby.
Miss Monk- ROFL we soo think alike. Serial killer! Yes that’s exactly what Adam needs to be.

Jus Jaz- Donna’s son Marcus and Lily would be fantastic! ( He is soo hot.)

You know the way something dramatic happens at the end to make you tune in next week. – if i was writer i’d love to have a white flash and a giant mushroom cloud appear in the distant background – then credits

A quick question about whaling…?
Hi, just a quick question to any whalers out there or people with contacts in the whaling industry. Do you happen to have any good links to distribution firms interested in purchasing soap made from baby mink whale fat?

I have 3 tons of the stuff and would like to get rid of it sharpish – ebay seems illequipped to deal with my requirements. I can freight the stuff anywhere internationally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Why should this be under fishing Shane? Whales are mamals.

Actually I would have been interested because you can make some fantastic Mr Whippy ice cream with a bit of whale fat but my girlfreinds been at the mince pies over the festive season to say the least (she’s over 8 stones now) and I’m sending her in for drastic liposuction this evening so I’ll knock some up with that. You could try the body shop though. Not sure who you would need to speak to now that dyke Roddick sold out to some corporate chemical giant but I know a lot of their products contain whale fat. It’s good quality stuff.

How do you rate the acting prowess of Rain in his film “Ninja Assassin” for his Hollywood quest?
I only seen the trailer of the movie ‘Ninja Assassin’, and I think it is pretty good. That is why I am asking those who have seen it and tell me what you think. Koreans are already showing some form either in music like the blockbuster song ‘nobody’ by the wonder girls and now they are embarking on the quest for a Hollywood fame. While we Filipinos are still watching soap opera over the television, crying our hearts out. I remember once I suggest that we make a movie all Filipinos are speaking in English for international marketing, some says it will never worked. I think the problem is not speaking in English but script writing. We do not have good story teller. Direktor bakla, script writer bakla, camera man bakla, PR bakla, lahat halos ng tao sa movie industry are gays. I have nothing about gays, but when it comes to making good script iba talaga ang lalake. Look how Steven Spielberg make movies and tell a story. Fascinating. Medyo magiisip ka while watching the movie. In the Philippines, trailer pa lang alam mo ng story line. Like the previous Filipino movies ‘And I love you so’ and ‘In my life”. Our Filipino actors or actresses are merely acting while in the US actresses like Demi Moore are not actresses only but artist in their own category. I admired here in the movie G.I. JANE, na nagtraining pa sya for 6 months and have to cut her whole hair for the role. Now that is dedication and utmost devotion to her craft. She can do the push up with one hand. Now compare that to a Filipino female actress who can do the same. I cannot think of one. Another one, Hilary Ann Swank, an academy award actresses of ‘Boys don’t cry’ and ‘Million dollar baby’. In ‘Boys don’t cry’ nagpakita sya ng upper portion of her boobs, dito sa atin na MTRCB na yon at na cut na, while in ‘Million dollar baby’ obvious na nagtraining sya how to box in real life. Ano ba ang kalimitan suot ng isang nakatira while she or he is at her own home, sapatos ba or slippers? Hindi tayo magaling mag conceptualize ng scene or how to project the idea of the character in the film. We shall never reach the door of Hollywood hanggang gutter lang tayo.

And now the Koreans are influencing our lives as well as the lives of the entire world. There are also Koreans shops in the Philippines, next thing we know the Koreans are buying the Philippines. I am not surprised the Filipino girls are going gaga over the Korean nobela ‘Boys over flowers’ which I think is where Rain originated from and now hitting hard for his film Ninja Assassin. While the world is revolving around us, a Filipino is eating fish ball and a sago in a plastic cup to quench his thirst in one corner of the street and watching the vehicles passes by.
In my previous question, some says it not English that can make it to Hollywood because some films can be dubbed in English. Jacky Chan & Jet Li in some of their films have to learn English one way or another, Jacky’ first US film the Protector in 1984, a Chinese cop who speak English and it was a flopped. It took him 7 more years to penetrate Hollywood because he concentrated filming mostly in Europe, it was Shanghai Knight 1 &2 and Rush Hour1&2 that catapult him to stardom in the US and the rest is history. While Jet Li in the movie “kiss of the dragon” he managed to speak broken English. So who is telling me English is not necessary in order to move to Hollywood? Plus the fact that Chinese are very good script writers compared to Filipinos, who’s only audience are merely for domestic consumption. It is time we change the way we think. But the way things are going I don’t think we can change it overnight.

I think you made a strong point about movies with English titles but are actually Tagalog movies. I am not a movie making professional but I think this is a no no. Since these movies are shown nationwide, you can have non-Pinoy tourists inadvertently buying tickets who could not understand the show. I recall there were Filipino indie movies that won in Cannes and Venice and they were good. We saw a couple in the States. Such an abundance of talent actually for the country but unfortunately their quality movies would not sell in the Philippines. The best thing for you to do is write your congressman and senator so they can do something about the sad state of the Phil. movie industry. I hope the country can come up with a Sundance Festival type of competition where talents are showcased. Sadly most movie professionals who earn big bucks in their careers turn to politics so the local movie industry is left to digress and never improve much. Stop comparing it with Holywood, it will only frustrate you as it is like night and day. Hollywood is a more than a $10 billion a year industry where everyone strives to be the best and they are ‘the best’.
